Learned a new lesson on my trip to Minnesota, this past weekend. Zip it up!
While boarding the plane in Orlando, the gate agent asked if I could zip up my expandable “carry on” bag. I said no, not even thinking about it and was pulled aside to check my bag as I watched big bag after big bag stroll onto the jetway to the plane.
As I waited to get my claim ticket and leave my “carry on” bag to be checked, I tried zipping the expanded portion and amazingly got it together! Nonetheless, I’d already been tagged and had to continue my long wait for the claim ticket — they had a handheld computer go down. Clearly, not a Mac.
Finally got to board the plane and watched my bag go up the conveyor belt into the belly of the plane. Fortunately, it was a direct flight to Minneapolis, so I was sure my bag would make it.
Convinced that I was singled out for the “expandable” bag, I kept it zipped for the return trip from Minneapolis. Sure enough, not a peep from the gate agent and the bag fit without a problem in the overhead bin.
So, save yourself some time the next time you’re going with a carry-on bag and zip it up! Not a major issue, but who needs another headache when you’re traveling?
