As a Floridian, Christmas at Disney’s Hollywood Studios started with the Osbourne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. We were like thousands of others that almost cried when Disney closed this light display. This was a tradition that was crushing to see it end.
Last year, Disney added the Jingle Bell Jingle JAM show to the Christmas at Disney’s Hollywood Studios lineup. This was a cute show, but you have to get there super early or book the dessert party to get a good view of this show. We enjoyed this show, but it certainly did not replace the Osbourne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights.
This year, Disney kicked off another new show called Sunset Seasons Greetings. This new show is projected on Tower of Terror and down Sunset Blvd. at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. These shows are filled with your favorite characters like the elves from Prep and Landing, Toy Story, and even Frozen. The kids and I headed off to Christmas at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on the opening night of Sunset Seasons Greetings. We were so excited to see this new show to see if it would replace the lights. It was a great surprise…WE LOVED IT!
Disney has several “shows” that they project on big screens throughout Sunset Blvd. Then the show continues on Tower of Terror. It covers the whole building, including the sides of the building. It is spectacular! The best news is you can get a fantastic view throughout the whole area and it runs throughout the night (once it gets dark.) You can stand in the street, watch it from Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, or even at the entrance/exit to Tower of Terror. I loved that you can just enjoy the show as much as you want, without a set time or crowds.
So, I know you are waiting for the big question…which is better…Osbourne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights or the new Sunset Seasons Greetings? After polling the family, we all agreed that we love this new show. It is amazing! BUT…it still does not replace the Osbourne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. This was just such an incredible display of lights and a holiday tradition. We still hope Disney brings this show back in the future.
