We spent the day hand feeding tarpon in Islamorada at Robbie’s Marina. It is definitely a sight to see when a school of more than 100 tarpon come hangout waiting for their human visitors. We had a run in with the pelicans and Tim had a close encounter with a HUGE tarpon!
The story of how this all started is interesting too. It began in 1976 when Robbie and his wife Mona started feeding Scarface. Scarface appeared floundering in the shallow waters near the dock, Robbie thought something wasn’t right so he went out to get him. Scarface’s jaw was ripped open so they called a doctor, got him fixed up and nursed him back to health for 6 months before releasing him into the waters. But he didn’t swim away forever. Scarface would continue to come visit the docks and even bring some fishy friends. Today, visitors come to see the schools of tarpon and give them a snack.
See some great drone shots and see us have some fun hand feeding tarpon in the video!
