As you know, we cruise a lot. We have over 30 cruises under our belt, so we know a lot of the tips and tricks to have an amazing cruise vacation. However, even experts can learn a thing or two.
It all started on our Royal Caribbean 5-Night Cruise. We left Fort Lauderdale on the Freedom of the Seas. It was a typical cruise vacation. We stayed in a Standard Inside Stateroom. It was a basic room, perfect for the three of us. The staterooms have outlets for you to charge your electronic devices.
On the 2nd night of our cruise, I plugged my phone right into the outlet. The next morning, I work up to an iPhone that would not turn on. I could not get it to charge or even turn on. It was just that dreaded black screen.
It was not until I got home that I found out what really happened. I took my phone to two different companies to see if they could figure out what happened to my iPhone. Both companies said my phone was not fixable. It received a surge that fried the board. My phone was dead…RIP!
It was a big mistake…a $1000 mistake!
I hope you can learn from our mistake. Going forward, we will always charge a charging block on the cruise ships. You can plug a charging block into the outlet. The charging blocks are less than $30 and will charge your phone fully. Some charging blocks will charge your phone twice. If the charge block gets fried, then you are only out $30, not an iPhone.
You can then charge your iPhone with the charging block. This will protect you from any surges from the ship. This was certainly the first time this ever happened to our family. However, live and learn. We hope this helps you learn from our costly mistake.
