We homeschool the kids during our travels around the world. One of our favorite homeschool adventures is Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Florida. This is one of the few places on Earth that a story actually comes to life. We love that about the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
One year, we decided a fantastic way to kick off the school year was with a visit to Diagon Alley at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The kids are were reading the Harry Potter series, so we thought experiencing Diagon Alley was a perfect way to celebrate the 1st day of school.

We wanted to share some more reasons why we love Wizarding World of Harry Potter for homeschoolers.

Homeschool Activities at Wizarding World of Harry Potter
With a visit to WWoHP, your kids will love all of their classes! Let’s dive into how you can turn a day at Wizarding World of Harry Potter into a day of learning, too.
PE: Have you been to Universal Orlando Resort? Just walking around the park and up and down the stairs at Hogwarts is enough physical fitness. Our whole family got more physical fitness today at WWoHP than running a 10K.
Technology: We purchased the interactive wands for the kids. They got to experience these new interactive wands throughout Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. You use the wands to make magic at both parks. It is a fantastic new technology that the kids loved learning about and then seeing in action.
Check out a video with all of the interactive wand spells at both Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley.
Reading: We enjoyed reading some of the Harry Potter books on the way to WWoHP. The real magic is seeing the books come to life at Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I think that is one of the most exciting parts of the experience!
Lunch: I know this is everyone’s favorite subject…right? You can have lunch at one of the quick service locations at both Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade. These are right out of the Harry Potter books.
For us, we had to get a Butterbeer or two!

Drama: Only at Wizarding World of Harry Potter can you get immersed in the story. However, you can take drama class a step further with the Ollivanders show at both Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade. You can become part of the show.
This is such an incredible experience for any child. Here is a video (below) from Wizarding World of Harry Potter. This video includes the full show from Ollivanders, so you can see what it is like to become part of the show.
Economics: Universal Orlando Resort does a fantastic job of having lots of opportunities to open your wallet at both Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley to buy fun souvenirs.
To make this a learning experience, our kids get gift cards. We buy the Visa or Mastercard gift cards from our local store. This is a set amount that they can spend during their day at Universal Orlando.

The kids are responsible for paying for everything (for the whole family), including meals and souvenirs. This gives them experience with money and budgeting.
We also talk a lot about marketing and economics. Universal Orlando Resort does such a great job of convincing you to buy Harry Potter merchandise. We talk a lot about that while we are visiting the parks.
Did you know that Tim wrote a guide to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando? He has helped thousands of guests with his insider tips for visiting the WWoHP. Check out the guide for your next Harry Potter adventure!
Home Economics: We wanted to share one more Harry Potter activity that you can do at home. You can make butterbeer with your kids. Here is a video tutorial on how to make cold or frozen butterbeer and here is a video tutorial on how to make hot butterbeer.
This is the perfect home economics activity, plus it is delicious!
